New Year, New Direction

January 5, 2020

There is something wonderful about the word "new".  It gives a sense of hope to what is yet to be.  With this new year, I encourage you to live with hope.  Hope that with determination and effort, it will be a happy and successful new year.  Each day is an opportunity for you to:

N ~ Notice the areas that need growth and work on those.

E ~ Empty yourself of all the negative and focus on the positive.

W~Weigh in all your options and plan purposefully.

Y ~ Yearn and work for those things that are right, good and of value.

E ~ Enjoy the moments by being grateful for the blessings.

A ~ Aim for goals that help you grow in all areas.

R ~ Remember that each new day is an opportunity to begin anew!

Sunny Moments

February 9, 2020

The weather is chilly here today in upstate New York.  Many of us here are now looking forward to warm and sunny days.  We are ready to leave the winter season behind for now.  But although chilly and I do find it beautiful when the sun peeks through the clouds and basks us with its bright rays.  Makes me smile.

I think about those days when it's been cloudy and gloomy.  Stress, anxiety, discouragement, doubts, fears, and many other dark moments that are determined to take my smile away.  It is during these moments that as I look towards heaven, I say a prayer and God sends sunny moments.  These come in many forms such as a friend praying for me, an encouraging word from a co-worker, the laughter of my grandchildren, etc.  At the end of the day, I want to remember those sunny moments.

As I receive these sunny moments, I am reminded to:

S ~ Send a sunny moment, cheer and encouragement, via email, text or regular mail,  to someone who is battling with a dark cloud.

U ~ Utilize my gifts and talents to brighten someone's day.

N ~ Never underestimate the power of sharing a simple smile.

N ~ Notice opportunities to do good.

Y ~ Yank out of my mind all negative thoughts and live as best as possible in a sunny, positive disposition so that others can enjoy the rays of sunshine as well.

S.M.I.L.E.

March 31, 2020

The world is being covered with the dark cloud of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and these are challenging times we are in.  We are directly or indirectly affected by this disease.  As our lives are being forced to adjust to a different way of living, we may find it difficult to smile.  The uncertainty of the future can cause our facial expressions to show unrest and worry.  But it is during these times that we should seek the sun that hides behind the cloudy sky.  Here are some ways you can begin to smile today:

S - Share of your resources.  Whatever much or little you have available,  seek ways to share the blessings you have with those in need.

M - Make time to care for your mind, spirit, and body.  Pray, study the Bible, exercise, read, work on a craft, do a puzzle, eat healthy, try new recipes, start new hobbies, stay connected with friends and family, etc.

I - Invest in your spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical growth.  (See "M" for investment ideas.)  Remember, you will reap what you sow.  Sow positivity and reap its dividend.

L - Let go of those things you can't control.  Focus on what you can control with a positive outlook..

E - Expect a positive future.  Maintaining a hopeful and positive attitude can help not only brighten your facial expression but others as well.  Someone needs your smile today!
